Electrical fire prompts safety warnings
By Charles Murphy
A factory fire in North Wales has prompted reminders about the need for firms to employ qualified electricians to carry out safety checks.
Firefighters from Colwyn Bay, Conwy and Llandudno were called in the early hours of Friday (August 14th) to tackle a blaze at the A 2 B Plastics industrial unit in Mochdre.
Bob Mason from the North Wales Fire and Rescue Service said the cause of the fire is thought to be electrical.
"It is extremely important that businesses regularly use Portable Appliance (PAT) testing to ensure the safety of electrical appliances," he commented.
"If in any doubt, they should consult a qualified electrician who will then look over the equipment."
The warning follows soon after a fire at the Manor Industrial Estate in Flint, which was also believed to be caused by a faulty electrical appliance and which destroyed the entire first floor of the Harry's Pies industrial unit.
