Electricians serve an ace for tennis club
Qualified electricians have helped to save a recession-hit tennis club in Croydon from going under.
Health and safety rules required Sanderstead Lawn Tennis Club to carry out upgrades and maintenance in order to meet emergency lighting and fire regulations, the Croydon Guardian reports.
Lantonway Electrical Engineers, which also maintains systems for the Royal College of Surgeons, agreed to step in after learning that the club needed help.
The qualified electricians updated systems, checked circuits and fire alarms and fitted new bulbs and batteries.
Danny Crowley, co-owner of Lantonway, said increasing numbers of firms are putting off essential maintenance work in order to save money during the recession.
However, he told the paper: "It could cost them dear in financial penalties if they have a snap fire inspection.
"Public buildings are at risk of being closed down if these systems are not maintained."
The Sanderstead Lawn Tennis Club has been established for over 100 years and also raises money for local charities.
