Solar panels a must for future homes
Solar panels should be installed by electricians in all future homes built in the UK, according to the National Energy Foundation (NEF).
Electricians and tradesmen may need to ensure they have the necessary skills to install environmentally friendly measures in new homes.
A spokesperson for the NEF claimed that installing green technologies is "common sense".
However, public opinion about the installation of microgeneration technology to reduce carbon emissions is weak.
Some 84 per cent of people have not even heard of the technology, while more than half did not believe it was possible to generate renewable energy from technology installed in the home, according to an nPower survey in March 2009.
Meanwhile, 44 per cent of those polled were not interested in microgeneration because they believe it is too expensive.
The NEF spokesman said: "The reality is that the homes of the future have got to be a mixture of stuff; they have got to be very well insulated [and] you have got to get as much out of solar as you can.
"I still firmly believe that every single property that is built in the UK, if it doesn't have solar panels on it [...] then I ask, 'Why?'"
