Upskilling "crucial" during downturn
Its "crucial" Brits improve the skills they've got during the downturn, according to the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD).
Electricians and other tradesmen have been urged by the organisation to retrain during the recession.
Frances Wilson, human resources advisor at the CIPD, explained that there are lots of opportunities for adults to upskill, such as adult education classes.
She said: "If there is any way they can improve their current or future employability by retraining and upskilling then it is essential that they should do so.
"In economic times of difficulty, any government has to prioritise what is the most important area of training currently."
The Innovation, Universities, Science and Skills Committee recently published a Second Special Report into re-skilling as a follow-up to the 2006 Lietch Review.
In response to the report, the government admitted that the economic climate provides a "changing context" for skills strategies and policies.
The government also committed to taking the opportunity to find new ways to improve the training and skills system.
