Young inventor helps electricians get Wire Wise
Qualified electricians around the world could soon be using a gadget dreamed up by an A-level student in Northern Ireland.
Owen McMeel invented Wire Wise, a device which dispenses lengths of wire for engineers and electricians, for a technology and design assignment after doing work experience with an electrician, BBC News reports.
"I noticed there were tiny bits of wire lying around everywhere - I thought it would save wasted copper and help to save money too," he told the news provider.
The invention took him first to the Young Innovators exhibition in Belfast, where its success led him to show the product at the UK Young Scientists and Engineers Fair in London.
Wire Wise now has a patent pending and the 19-year-old inventor has been invited to travel to Beijing in July.
The news follows reports that an electrician was recently able to install and control a green heating system for a home in Lossiemouth by using Hager's Tebis product.
