Green cement paves the way to fewer emissions
A new technology which claims to be able to reduce carbon emissions from cement production by over three-quarters has been developed by a firm in Wales.
Cenin, an award-winning company dedicated to promoting and advancing green practices within the construction sector, makes its cement from industry by-products which are modified to create a low-carbon, high-strength cement substitute.
"There is real potential for global growth as the construction industry is under increasing pressure to reduce its carbon footprint," said Cenin's director Martyn Popham.
Production of cement currently accounts for five per cent of all CO2 emissions worldwide, more than the entire global aviation industry but Cenin's method produces just 250kg of CO2 per ton.
The announcement follows the launch earlier in the year of Green Building Store's new Passivhaus range, which aims to help the UK construction industry reduce energy usage for space heating by up to 90 per cent.
