Hire expert help for basement conversions
Homeowners are being advised to think about the benefits a basement conversion could bring them this spring as part of Home Improvement Month.
The Property Care Association (PCA) reports that a rising number of people are hiring tradesmen to help them convert their dingy basement into an attractive living space.
Yasmin Chopin, executive director at the PCA, estimates that the number of people undertaking such conversions has doubled in the past three years.
"Such work can create flexible space suitable for a wide variety of uses, which will ultimately add value to a property in the long term," she added.
A website has also been launched by the PCA to give people advice on all the things they will need to know before beginning a conversion, such as the importance of hiring expert help to stop water levels causing damage.
Home Improvement Month began in April with a week of advice on electrics, plumbing and safety, while the second week will focus on interior decorating.
