Insulate your home , owners urged
Handymen and tradesmen could find a boost in insulation installation work following a recommendation by the National Home Improvement Council (NHIC).
Homeowners have been urged to consider insulation if they cannot afford an extension in the current economic climate by NHIC director Andrew Leech.
He even suggested homeowners with big bedrooms employ plumbers to install ensuite bathrooms, which can also improve a property.
Mr Leech explained: "One thing we would urge people to do if they can't afford to have a full extension, is to look at the insulation of their homes loft insulation, cavity wall insulation.
"There are other potential ways around improving what you have already got without going outside the envelope."
His comments follow research by Sainsbury's Home Insurance, which found that nearly a third of Brits (29 per cent) are not aware that they need to inform their insurer before undertaking structural work on their home.
