£19m village refurbishment project announced
Plumbers and electricians look set to receive more work in a countrywide project to regenerate village buildings.
The refurbishment project will be funded with a £19 million grant from the Big Lottery Fund.
More than 50 villages across the country will benefit from the scheme, which will include developing new buildings and revitalising existing ones.
Sanjay Dighe, Big Lottery Fund England Chair, believes the funding will be a "ray of light for local communities".
He said: "Voluntary and community organisations in particular are facing challenging times because of the economic downturn.
"These grants will strengthen local services and help to ensure the long-term sustainability of the facilities and of the communities that use them."
Some £4 million in funding is to be spent on regenerating communities throughout the West Midlands.
Meanwhile, the Big Lottery Fund is also set to spend more than half a million on two building refurbishments in York.
Some £247,037 will be spent on the Melbourne Centre Development project, while a 100-year-old village hall in Bishopthorpe will benefit from £245,000 of funding.
