8 in 10 tradespersons keen to give green advice
Some 84 per cent of tradesmen are keen to give British households advice about energy efficiency, according to new research.
But despite being keen to please, it appears most tradesmen's efforts would fall on deaf ears, a poll by the Energy Saving Trust shows.
Only one in six households would trust a tradesperson's advice, the survey of 2,362 people showed.
Half admitted they would be suspicious that a tradesman's green suggestions were actually an attempt to get more work.
However, tradesmen admitted that they needed more guidance about green rules in the UK.
Some 68 per cent said they need clearer explanations of environmental legislation, while 78 per cent claimed they needed further guidance about changes to energy efficiency requirements.
Philip Sellwood, chief executive of the Energy Saving Trust, said: "Real cost savings - in terms of labour and minimising disruption - are on offer to householders who employ tradespeople to install energy-efficiency measures when they are in doing other work.
"Householders can save on average £340 a year on energy bills through green improvements."
In a separate poll by the Energy Saving Trust, set up to reduce CO2 emissions in the UK, plumbers were found to be the most likely tradespersons to offer green advice to customers.
