Bradford sustainable village to create new jobs
Electricians and plumbers in Bradford will soon be put to work on a new sustainable housing development in the city centre.
Planning permission for part of the £150 million sustainable student village has been granted and could create up to 700 jobs.
The Listerhills Sustainable Student Village will provide accommodation for 1,000 University of Bradford students.
It will form part of the £750 million learning quarter planned for the city.
Mark Cleary, vice chancellor of the University of Bradford, said that the village forms part of a wider "'ecoversity' initiative".
He said: "As a leading academic institution, we strive to be at the forefront of excellence and innovation.
"Demonstrating sustainable living and learning highlights our forward-thinking approach and will put the university of the map."
The project construction is being managed by Mi7 Developments, a subsidiary of Hayaat Group.
Four new development schemes have also been unveiled for the city that will offer new accommodation and leisure and office facilities.
The projects are expected to create an additional £50 million in the city during the next year.
