Grand Designs launches eco-refurb campaign
A campaign has been launched to rejuvenate Britain's housing stock and make it "easier, cheaper and cleverer" to retrofit greener, more energy-efficient homes.
Grand Designs presenter Kevin McCloud is leading the Great British Refurb, which aims to pressure the government into giving homeowners new ways to pay for green refurbishment, as well as grants and financial incentives for renovations.
The campaign is also emphasising the importance of making sure all installers are qualified, fully-trained professionals who are approved to undertake the work.
Mr McCloud says that unless eco-renovations are carried out on a grand scale across the UK, the country does not have "a hope in hell" of meeting its carbon emissions targets by 2050.
"It's a big challenge we've got and we need to do it quickly because we need to start refurbishing now, 50,000 homes next year, 100,000 the next year, 1.6 million homes a year by 2020," he commented.
