HCA commits to ambitious affordable homes plans
The head of the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA) has insisted that his organisation will oversee the construction of 50,000 new affordable homes by the end of 2010.
Publishing the HCAs preliminary end of year results, chief executive Sir Bob Kerslake reported that the agency the successor of the Housing Corporation and English Partnerships built 50,000 affordable properties last year and pledged to build "at least" the same number in the coming year.
"This is a tremendous result in terms of delivery and spend. We are grateful to all of our partners, RSLs , local authorities and house builders, in particular, for the part they have played in achieving this," he said.
With much of the rest of the construction industry in the economic doldrums, Sir Bob paid tribute to the achievement of his organisation which hit its target to invest £3.9 billion in housing and regeneration last year.
"Our ability to act flexibly and tailor make solutions with our partners has allowed us to unlock the full potential of our budget, benefiting both the industry and communities," he added.
