Handymen drive down fuel bills in Newham
Qualified tradespeople have been helping the residents of one London borough to reduce their energy bills.
As part of a £372 million refurbishment programme, Newham Homes has replaced heating systems and installed Baxi Solarflo solar thermal domestic hot water systems in selected properties.
The solar installations are hoped to make the homes go beyond the requirements of the government's Decent Homes initiatives, simultaneously reducing fuel poverty and improving sustainability.
"At Newham Homes, we are very proud of our commitment to reducing carbon dioxide emissions," commented Les Hayward, lead design consultant on the project for Newham Homes.
"We have won extra funding for our being one of the leading London boroughs in the fight against carbon dioxide waste in London."
Social housing contractor Environmental Property Services carried out the heating system installations.
The contractor recently received the prestigious gold RoSPA Occupational Health and Safety Award for its commitment to protecting the wellbeing of its workers.
