Homeowners urged to adopt renewable energy
Homeowners should consider the longer-term impact of energy-efficiency installations around the home, it has been claimed.
However, the cost of hiring a plumber or electrician to install renewable technologies should not put homeowners off, according to eco-designer Oliver Heath.
Speaking on behalf of energy supplier npower, Mr Heath said that short-term concerns are outweighed by the potential for energy price increases.
He said: "There are a number of ways that you can look at the cost of microgeneration and we can be thinking short term about how much it is going to cost to install it.
"The longer-term period we can see that people are feeling that energy prices are going to be going up."
Research by Tickbox.net and Opinion Matters for npower indicated that 84 per cent of people have not heard of microgeneration.
Meanwhile, more than half (56 per cent) admitted they were not aware that it was possible to generate energy in the home.
