New Welsh plan proposes further support for efficiency improvements
Welsh residents living in fuel poverty are to be given support to improve the energy efficiency of their property.
The Welsh Assembly has launched a new National Energy Efficiency and Savings Plan intended to cut energy costs in the home and reduce emissions across Wales.
Under the plan, homeowners are to be provided with help and funding for energy efficiency improvements, including work carried out by plumbers or handymen.
Environment minister Jane Davidson explained that the new strategy would help to achieve the assembly commitment to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by three per cent per year from 2011.
As part of proposals, families on means-tested benefits could receive more direct support for improvements from the Home Energy Efficiency Scheme (HEES).
She said: "Saving energy will help us achieve this. Importantly it also means saving money.
"We want to help householders in Wales who are struggling with their energy bills to save energy and money and be better able to manage the cost of heating their homes."
Homeowners can currently apply for up to £3,600 for home improvements under the scheme for heating and insulation improvements.
