One-quarter to spend on renovations this year
A quarter of British homeowners are planning to spend money on improvements to their property this year, according to research.
Figures from Unbiased.co.uk show that the housing slump is encouraging property owners to call in the builders rather than attempt to move house, with two-thirds saying they would try renovating to get their dream home instead.
Another fifth of 18-34 year olds believed that home improvements were the best way to add value to their property.
Richard Winder, spokesperson for Unbiased.co.uk, emphasised the importance of homeowners making sure they can pay before contracting trained professionals to undertake work.
"We would urge anyone planning to invest significant sums of money into their home to seek advice on how best to finance these renovations in the current climate," he added.
Sainsbury's Bank recently advised people undertaking electrical repairs in their homes to be sure to hire a qualified electrician to prevent damage to themselves and their properties.
