Training can fill the CV gap
By Brian de Selby
People looking for work should try their best to fill any gaps on their CVs, perhaps by training as a plumber or electrician, according to the Careers Advice Service.
Dave Berry, a careers coach from the service, said people often undervalue their skills or find it difficult to consider how they could be put to use in a different work situation.
Additionally, he told those looking for work that a large gap in their CV can become a growing problem, as it can both make them lose confidence in themselves and be unattractive to potential employers.
"We would advise people to do anything they can to positively fill that gap, be it voluntary work, a course, some form of training or networking," he commented.
The employment rate for people of working age was 72.7 per cent in the three months to June, down 0.9 per cent on the previous quarter.
