Wind energy will create construction jobs
A government boost for wind energy schemes could create new construction and engineering jobs in the UK, it has been claimed.
The British Wind Energy Association recently gave the thumbs-up to chancellor Alistair Darling's Budget announcement, which included a potential £525 million to support offshore wind power development.
A new deal with the European Investment Bank is also hoped to provide up to £4 billion for investment in renewable infrastructure, providing a huge boost to the construction and trades sector.
"There are £10 billion worth of wind energy schemes that could go into development straight away," said Charles Anglin, communications director at the British Wind Energy Association.
He added: "£2.5 billion of that money would be spent directly in the UK economy on international construction jobs."
The UK has a £10 billion pipeline of 'shovel ready' wind energy projects that are currently on hold due to the economic climate, according to The British Wind Energy Association.
