CV gets applicants an interview
A CV should be used to help applicants get an interview not a job, according to an employment consultancy firm.
Plumbers attempting to get their foot in the door using their CV should make it look attractive to ensure it passes the "30 second test".
Senior consultant at the Write Stuff Peter Panayotou explains that employers often take no longer than around 30 seconds to decide whether they will read an applicant's whole CV.
He said: "One of the most common problems I come across is problems with spelling, punctuation and grammar.
"If there are any spelling, punctuation or grammatical errors in it, it will certainly go against you."
More than a third (36 per cent) of employers intend to sustain staff levels, according to the Labour Market Outlook Quarterly survey from the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development.
Meanwhile, more than a quarter (27 per cent) intend to increase staff levels.
