Conservatories need the right heating system
Householders who hire a tradesmen to undertake a new conservatory or extension may need to be reminded about the need to install the correct plumbing and heating systems.
Jason Orme, editor of HomeBuilding & Renovating Magazine, said modern conservatory design should take into account the fact that they often overheat in the summer and underheat in the winter.
"[You can think about] heating systems to be installed, whether that is electric underfloor heating or even spot heaters.
"Also, to ensure that they don't get too hot in the summer, it is down to the use of blinds, air conditioning and other ventilation as well," he commented.
The latest annual Halifax Home Improvement Survey revealed that adding an extra room or an extension to a property could add more value than any other improvement, making it an increasingly attractive option as house prices fall.
An average extension costs £19,922 to install but could add as much as £25,590 to the property's value, according to the study.
