Employees considering starting own business
Many people are considering starting their own business during the downturn, according to national enterprise network the NFEA.
Speaking ahead of the Home Enterprise Week event next month, chief executive of the organisation George Derbyshire explained that operating a business from home is just as legitimate as anything else.
He said: "This is a time when many people are seeing that there are opportunities to start their own business.
"Many more people are thinking not 'I'll go out and find myself a new job' if they've been made redundant, but 'here's an opportunity to start up a business'."
Employers are expected to make further redundancy cuts over the next three months, according to a survey by the Chartered Institute of Personnel Development.
Notably, firms making redundancies, such as among plumbers and electricians, are expected to exceed the number employers planning to hire.
Mr Derbyshire added that these conditions are likely to see a number of people pursuing their ideas and entrepreneurial opportunities.
