Heat pump interest strong among small traders
Smaller tradesmen are continuing to show an interest in heat pump installations for new build housing, according to pump design firm Ice Energy.
Interest from larger developers has waned with the impact of the economic downturn on the construction industry, technical sales director Richard Thickford claimed.
But with smaller developments and refurbishments still going ahead, smaller builders are showing an interest in getting one of the energy-efficient pumps installed, he said.
Mr Thickford said: "Sixty per cent of our business is retro fits - people who have a home and have an old system which is running out or wearing out.
"A heat pump is 400 per cent efficient whereas a gas or oil boiler is 70 to 80 per cent efficient you are using an awful lot less fossil fuel to run it."
Figures from the Energy Efficiency Partnership for Homes show that around £6.8 billion is wasted on energy in the UK every year.
