Housing market lift will boost SME prospects
A pick up in the housing market will boost many small to medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), according to financial services firm.
Plumbers, electricians and other SMEs are linked to the housing market, explains Danny Cox, chartered planner for Hargreaves Lansdown.
The National Association of Estate Agents has called on chancellor Alistair Darling to take steps to lift the housing market out of its slump in the budget submission next month (April 22nd).
Among the measures proposed are a suspension of home information packs and the abolition of stamp duty.
Mr Cox said: "So many small businesses in the UK are tied or linked to the housing market and the supply chain around that.
"It really is a case of waiting for the housing market to move again and that may be a key signal to show that the economy is moving again."
Goods and services business costs fell by 2.9 per cent across the UK in the fourth quarter of 2008.
