Jersey plumber s achievements recognised
A qualified plumber from Jersey has come in for a lifetime achievement award for his services to the construction industry.
Brian Langlois, 68, received top honours at the Jersey Construction Council 2009 Awards this month after a total of 53 years in the trades.
He began work at BR Biddle & Son in 1956 and has been responsible for training more than 40 tradesmen since that time, 16 of whom went on to start up their own businesses.
Mr Langlois has been in charge of projects ranging in size from domestic houses to large-scale construction efforts, such as the building of L'Horizon Hotel, Chateau des Roches and the refurbishment of Pomme D'Or Hotel.
His colleague George Carswell commented: "As someone who left school with a basic education it has been incredible how he has come into the office situation and been able to excel with quotes, specifications, paperwork and handling phone calls."
It follows news that one of Britain's longest-serving plumbers and veteran of World War One, Harry Patch, has died at the age of 111.
