Job opportunities in East Midlands housing plan
New jobs in the building industry are set to be created as part of an effort to meet the region's housing demands.
The East Midlands Regional Plan was unveiled by communities minister Sadiq Khan yesterday (March 12).
Under the proposals, new job opportunities through the delivery of homes and infrastructure targets by 2026.
More than 430,300 homes are set to be built under plans, creating significant opportunities for plumbers, electricians and other tradesmen.
Sadiq Khan explained that the new plan will tackle the three goals of strengthening the economy, addressing the housing shortage and tackling climate change risks, such as flooding.
He said: "The population is growing rapidly with more people living alone and the gap between average houses prices and average wages is widening.
"If more homes are not built, the housing ladder will grow even further out of reach leaving the next generation with nowhere to live."
The unveiling of the new plan comes after the government committed to make £350 million available to fund existing property refurbishment across the UK.
