Plumber saves house from collapse
A drain engineer has saved a customer's home from potential disaster after carrying out a routine blockage inspection in Bradford.
The Drain Doctor emergency plumber was carrying out some digging to unblock a damaged drain when he struck upon a disused mineshaft.
Worryingly, the five to six-metre cavern was located under the front foundations of the house.
Danny O'Hara, who made the discovery, was alerted when drain pipework "simply fell apart".
He said: "We dug a little further and the ground just opened up into a five or six metre cavern.
"The front of the house and its foundations were just hovering in mid air."
A scaffolding system to support the house has since been commissioned by the Coal Authority for the house.
Drain Doctor recently successfully expanded its service into Portugal.
Operations manager in Portugal Jose Ferreira Sao Vicente explained that the plumbing services the company offers are having a "major impact on the local drainage and plumbing market".
