Refurb project gives Keats House a facelift
Tradesmen have helped to restore the London home of one of England's greatest poets to its former glory.
Keats House has undergone a £500,000 refurbishment project which was made possible through a grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund.
The historic building is due to reopen tomorrow (July 24th) after the complete redecoration of every room, retiling, the installation of new light fittings and roofing repairs.
Plumbers have also been hard at work to replace the boiler and radiators in the house and a brand new room in the basement has been opened to the public.
Michael Welbank, chairman of the Hampstead Heath management committee, commented: "The house and garden have been been beautifully restored to a living environment that John Keats would have recognised almost 200 years ago."
The title of the restoration project was Magic Casements, a reference from one of Keats' most famous poems, Ode to a Nightingale.
