World s oldest plumber honoured by CIPHE
The world's oldest plumber and last surviving veteran of World War One has been honoured by the Chartered Institute of Plumbing and Heating Engineering (CIPHE).
Harry Patch, who celebrated his 111th birthday recently, trained as a plumber following the war and has written about his experiences in the trades in his autobiography.
Now CIPHE has awarded him an honorary fellowship for his commitment, dedication and service to the plumbing industry.
"Harry is delighted to receive this honour. He would far rather be considered a plumber rather than a soldier," commented a spokesman for Mr Patch.
Blane Judd, chief executive of CIPHE, paid tribute to Mr Patch's "significant contributions" to the industry, adding: "The whole nation has huge respect for Harry and we felt it was only right that we should recognise his long service to our industry and the country."
CIPHE recently released a document entitled Taking Control of Carbon, which is designed to help householders to make savings in energy and their heating bills.
