Recruitment and training grant for businesses
A £2,500 recruitment and training grant has been announced by the government to allow businesses to help get people back into work.
From today (April 6th), businesses can take advantage of a package of measures designed to help those who have been claiming jobseeker's allowance for six months.
Other elements of the package include more help for people setting up their own businesses and access to 75,000 work-focused training opportunities.
Work and pensions secretary James Purnell says that with the £2 billion package the government recognises that finding a job in the current climate is not easy and more training is often vital.
"This is just part of a range of measures coming in today to give people all the support we can," he comments.
Skills secretary John Denham adds: "Employers with well trained staff do better than those that don't invest in the skills of their workforce."
The announcement comes soon after £22 million of extra European cash was pledged to increase employment opportunities and develop work skills.
