Brits lack DIY skills
The skills of handymen and electricians may be in high demand, with the current generation of Brits short on DIY skills, new research has suggested.
A survey carried out by search engine Ask.com found that less than a third (32 per cent) can change a lock or tile a bathroom.
Some 14 per cent claim to be able to bricklay.
Basic electrical skills are more prevalent, with more than two-thirds (68 per cent) believing they can wire a plug.
However, this halves to 34 per cent among under 30s.
Ask.com spokesperson Nadia Kelly explained: "Many of these skills were once passed down from generation to generation but that no longer seems to happen."
The government announced plans to relax planning application rules, meaning that more work can be carried out without seeking prior consent from the local planning authorities.
This is expected to save Britons up to £300 million each year in total.
