Crossrail project sustains trades jobs
By Brian de Selby
More construction jobs have been created and sustained by the building work at the Crossrail Canary Wharf Station.
Transport minister Sadiq Khan recently visited the station to check the progress on what is the largest infrastructure project in Western Europe.
He commented: "This project will boost the UK economy by at least £20 billion and create and support thousands of jobs, relieve congestion and provide a high-speed rail link across London.
"It's good news to see that this project is well and truly underway."
Work is reportedly on schedule, with the foundations of the station laid through a special piling method that reduces noise nuisance to the surrounding area.
The station also now features independent step-free disabled access from street to platform.
Earlier in the month budding architects from local schools surrounding Canary Wharf were invited to submit their designs of how they think the new station will look when it is opened to the public.
