More trades jobs to be created in the south-east
By Charles Murphy
Tradesmen and builders in the south-east have more jobs in store after a £109.8 million share of funding was announced for the region by the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA).
The money will help to get 26 shortlisted projects in the south-east underway again, enabling over 2,300 new homes to be built and providing jobs in the area for qualified plumbers, electricians and handymen.
Stewart Baseley, executive chairman of the Home Builders Federation, said the funding will help work to progress on sites where the economic crisis and lack of mortgage availability have halted work.
"It will help boost jobs in house building and the supply chain, rebuild housing output and protect capacity so that the industry is better prepared for the recovery," he commented.
The HCA recently announced that homes in 46 areas of the country will receive a share of £84 million to help provide cavity wall insulation, which will require qualified tradesmen to install.
