New trades jobs created in Greater Manchester
By Brian de Selby
Some 386 new jobs are to be created within a local authority in Bolton, including some opportunities for qualified tradesmen.
Bolton Council is using £2.5 million of government cash to create jobs in public service areas ranging from street repairs and housing refurbishment to maintenance work in galleries and museums.
Councillor Cliff Morris, leader of Bolton Council, said the funding is a "great opportunity" for young people across the region to learn new skills.
He added: "The increased employment opportunities will help Bolton to remain in a very healthy state through difficult financial times and form part of the government's new Backing Young Britain campaign."
The funding comes from the Future Jobs Fund, which was announced this year's Budget and currently totals £52 million, to create as many as 8,000 jobs across Greater Manchester over the next two years.
Job opportunities will be available from October and will last for at least six months.
