Olympic accommodation work progressing well
By Charles Murphy
Tradesmen and others in the construction industry at the Olympic Village report that work is progressing well, with building now underway on all of the planned residential plots.
Some 11 new residential plots are now taking shape on the site, while earthworks have also begun for the ambitious Chobham Academy project which will eventually house 1,800 students.
Qualified electricians and plumbers are currently installing essential wiring, heating and drainage facilities between the sites of the new housing blocks.
"The strong start we have made on the Olympic Village site over the past year puts us firmly on track to deliver a high-quality new development for generations to come," commented Ralph Luck, director of property at the Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA).
Last month the ODA announced that all permanent Olympic Park venues are now under construction, following the launch of building work on the 7,000-seat Handball Arena.
