Portsmouth BSF moves step closer to approval
Job opportunities for tradesmen are set to be created following the provisional approval of 12 new school projects in Portsmouth.
The Department for Children, Schools and Families has given its backing to the city's Building Schools for the Future (BSF) proposals.
Four new city secondary schools will be completely rebuilt, while eight more will undergo refurbishments.
Councillor John Ireland, cabinet member for education, children and young people at Portsmouth city council claimed the government rating of the plans as "good" was "brilliant news".
He said: "Once this has been approved, we can select three bidders to start the dialogue about how the plans and proposals can be developed and implemented.
"BSF in Portsmouth is gaining momentum and laying foundations to successfully transform learning throughout city secondary schools."
According to Portsmouth's The News, plans to build a brand new college to train plumbers and other tradesmen in the city have been axed after funding was frozen.
Building work had been due to start next year.
