Tradesmen helped to stay in touch
By Susie Cho
A south Devon-based housing association has launched a new and more efficient way to send qualified tradesmen to repair and service jobs.
Tor Homes, which oversees some 3,000 tenants, has awarded a five-year contract to Brighton firm ROCC Computers to supply 1st Touch mobile technology which aims to give tenants an accurate time and date they can expect a repairman.
Under the system, tradesmen such as plumbers and electricians can log on from their PDA in the morning to find their first appointment straight from home, allowing jobs to be planned en route.
David Parker, ICT manager at Tor Homes, said the technology will help to improve services for tenants and drive down costs.
"Now the tenants will get a definite appointment and they can receive a text, either to their mobile, or their landline, reminding them of the appointment time," he commented.
The 1st Touch system and ROCC have already worked together on social housing solutions for Powys Council, 2010 Rotherham and Morrison.
